Forgiveness is Difficult!

“If you do not forgive men your sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” (Matthew 6:14)

Forgiveness is an unnatural act, so why must we forgive? The Greek translation of the word “forgiveness” means release. When we forgive we are set free from the bondage of the past, but unforgiveness enslaves us and destroys the potential for change. The Bible tells us that God forgives and if we are to reflect the character of God in our life, we need to learn to forgive. In fact, forgiveness is not an option; it is a command. In Matthew 6:14-15, Jesus says, “If you do not forgive men your sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.”
According to Peter Yancy, a Christian author, the gospel of grace begins and ends with forgiveness. God forgives unconditionally and seeks no benefit for himself. We need to forgive others unconditionally, remembering that forgiveness is a process and may take time. Don’t wait for the other person to make the next move. Take the first step. Love your enemies. Do not seek revenge for that is God’s business. He will administer judgment to those who have wounded our spirit. (Romans 12:19)
We have received an amazing grace. Let us not hoard it but pass it on to others……..(Judy Whittaker)
